A Letter to the Obama Whitehouse

Letter To Obama at Whitehouse Sent from 95 year Old Pearl Harbor Survivor!! Fantastic!! This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.

PWR Black Powder Rifle Raffle

During the evening of March 20th during the celebration of State Representative Jerry Weiers’ presentation of Person of the Year for 2009, we added the raffle drawing of the 1750’s handmade replica of a “50 Cal. Tennessee Hog”. Black Powder craftsman “Boon” Harsh crafted this weapon from a large plank of “Curly Maple” wood and created one of the most beautiful works of art I, and many others who viewed the weapon during the raffle, have ever seen. Attention to detail and the final product are unbelievable.

Recycled Rides Donates Vehicle to PWR

Recycled Rides is a program sponsored by the NABC and local members in each state. The NABC participants work with various insurance companies (in our case State Farm Insurance) to find a vehicle that has been taken off the street due to physical damage. Recycled Rides reviews the history and condition of the vehicle and if appropriate for their use will take the donated vehicle from the Insurer and repair the vehicle to street certified condition by the State where the vehicle is to be titled, and then donate that Recycled Ride to a Charity or an individual in need. Military Families Foundation is Honored to be considered a worthy recipient of one of the 72 Vehicles donated this year across the U.S. If you want Corporate America to continue to sponsor and help our Veterans, please take time to call both State Farm and 9.1.1. Collision and say THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT FOR OUR VETS !!!!!!

Veterans Deserve Better

Today is Veterans Day, and our veterans are getting the shaft. I was reminded of this in the November 2009 newsletter from Project "We Remember." (See www. ProjectWeRemember.org.) Veteran Vernon Bagley, executive director of this project and of Military Families Foundation, shares with us that approximately 66 percent of all U.S. veterans are not eligible for any VA benefits because they were not in a combat zone, not wounded, nor did they become ill on active duty. That's just wrong.

Before I speak about my experiences, I want to thank all of our law enforcement, our intelligence services and especially our military personnel for keeping us free from terrorism for the past 8 years. It is not luck or co-incidence!! It is hard work by dedicated patriots. We should not take for granted our safety and our freedoms.

For many of Arizona’s sick and injured military veterans, medical care means extended stays at veteran’s hospitals. These stays are made more difficult by the fact that many of them live far from veteran’s facilities and cannot afford to have their families stay with them during their treatment.

AMAZING WOMEN in WAR and PEACE

History raves about the heroics of men in war...but few instances are mentioned in which female courage was displayed. Yet during every conflict, and the peaceful years between, they too were there.

May 10, 2007 Update

I concluded a meeting this a.m. with Douglas H. Mitchell, Jr. LCSW, Chair, Social Work Department, Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Phoenix, AZ. My principal mission was to determine the degree of “need” there is associated with the concept of Project: “We Remember”.

First let me say that everyone that I have talked with both at the Tampa, FL VA Center and here at the Phoenix, AZ VA Center have been absolutely astonished by the concept and see an incredible need for this type of activity. There is a program which is supported by the VA called The Fisher House, where the Fisher family in association with the VA started building facilities on selected VA Center Campus that would house from 6 to 12 families who could visit during the hospital stay but the demand far exceeds the need and certain VA Centers do not have the space on campus or the budget to request a Fisher House.
